Chapter 8
“Ugh, how long does it take for two girls to disguise their outfits?” Princess whined, for the 7th time in 15 mins. Shila rolled her eyes and sighed, “How many times do we have to say, ‘It’s either get discovered and probably disappear, or survive and stay hidden?’”. Shila frowned at Princess, who had begun to start scratching little pieces of stone from the wall off onto the floor.
Stripes grunted and looked at Shila, “Hmph, girls… It’s typical that you tend to take longer to get dressed…” Stripes grinned, sticking out his tongue… Space smiled at Stripes, “Hee hee! You got something right there wizard! Girls always seem to take longer than boys do at anything!” Space smiled, taunting the girls…
A loud “Swoosh!” Caused Space to jump in mid- joke… There, standing at the door were two figures… The taller one on Space’s right, was dressed in some sort of clothing that looked like a blue leotard, except for the fact that it had many shades of blue on it, and the fact that it was glowing! Left of the taller one, stood a much smaller creature, clothed in a grey shirt and blue pants, who was holding a bag that could be filled with all sorts of goodies, but it was not quite as big as a backpack though…
“What was that about girls taking much longer than boys?” The blue figure, Lefty, stood facing both Space and Stripes with a grin on her face, daring them to continue… “W-well…. We were just saying that since you guys were taking so long to dress, we figured it must be a lady thing…” Stripes shrugged, showing a bit of regret on his face…
Cat took a step forward between Lefty and Stripes, before giggling… “Oh, you guys are so silly! I bet if you tried to fit into a leotard, it would take you at least an hour just to get one foot in! Why not drop it, ok?” Cat frowned at Stripes, giving him a warning…
“Alright, knock it off! We’ve more important things to take care of at the moment if you didn’t notice!” Toby frowned, putting his hands on his hips… He then pulled out a sword, that looked much smaller than what he was used to lugging around, and it had sort of a faint blue color to it…
“Here, this is for you… Use it only in dire emergencies.” Toby smiled, as he handed the sword to Lefty. As soon as Lefty had the sword in her hands, it started to glow blue. Lefty stared at its intense glow until it became a blinding light that engulfed the whole room. Lefty then seemed to wince in pain as she tried not to wobble over in pain. The blue light continued to glow brighter until the gang had to shield their eyes from the light. “M-make i-it s-s-STOP!!!!” Lefty screamed she desperately tried to move…
Toby immediately dropped what he was doing and ran over to Lefty and grabbed the sword from her hands, making the bright glow around them fade away… After the sword left her hands, Lefty dropped onto her knees and began to pant heavily… Toby quickly ran over to Lefty and picked her up, “Perhaps, its best if you keep it in your bag until needed…” Toby muttered as he blindly put the sword into Lefty’s small bag while she was still dazed by the bright flash of light…
“Um, Shila… C-could you please search in my bag over there for the beginner herbs to give to Cat, while I go and give Lefty and Space a quick briefing on where they need to go next, and also go and give them a map?” Toby asked Cat, while grabbing Lefty’s coat and handing it to her…
Shila blinked in surprise, but said nothing as she ran over to Toby’s bag and began rummaging through things… Toby took advantage of this as he grabbed Space and Lefty dragging them into a small closet filled with scrolls… “Ow! Hey what’s the big idea here?” Lefty whined, as Toby had accidently slung her against the doorway in his haste…. Toby took no mind of this as he quickly lit a candle, “You two need to know something a little… extra…” The dwarf huffed, fear in his eyes as he looked at them both… “What exactly do you mean by that?” Space frowned while looking at Lefty, concern in his eyes… The dwarf frowned, looking more serious than ever before, “That light earlier… You know the one that Lefty accidently made?” Toby replied, no emotion showing…
Lefty looked at Toby, as if she was still trying to read him, “Ya, what of it? Was the sword faulty or something?” Lefty questioned, curiosity filling her playful eyes… Toby blinked, “Th-that light, was unexpected this early….” Toby frowned… Space growled, “What are you getting to dwarf? My patience grows thin…” He frowned… The dwarf straightened up, taking in a deep breath, “Your Prophet here, Lefty. She has unlocked her power at an earlier stage than most Prophet’s do…” Toby frowned, fear filling his eyes… “Isn’t that supposed to be a good thing?” Lefty questioned while smiling, her imagination obviously getting the best of her as she daydreamed…
The dwarf shook his head, “In most cases yes, but in this case no… You see, while it is good to unlock more power once it’s properly earned, power that is unlocked too early, typically by extremely powerful Prophets, can lead to the user not being able to handle such power, and thus can drain one of energy… That sword you have helps amplify and channel a Prophet’s power, along with you cross stone… That kind of energy you released from the sword SHOULD be something that you only see when a Prophet is nearing the end of one’s journey… However, you already possess it, which can and will lead to massive energy drains, and possibly passing out…” The dwarf shuddered, as he looked around the area before leaning closer to them, “Young knight, make sure that you take extreme caution in protecting her, and also make sure that she doesn’t pass out or anything thing since she can….” The dwarf seemed to shudder as he clasped his fists tighter and grimaced…
The knight leaned in closer, “Since she can… What?” Space stared at the dwarf, worry filling his eyes… The dwarf slowly opened his mouth to reply, when a sudden “CRASH!” was heard coming from the outside, followed by screams. The dwarf jumped in surprise and then quickly grabbed his ax from his bag and opened the door, “Since her power can leak out if she has her hood off!” Toby screamed as horror filled his eyes. “That leads to ‘trackers’ and!” The dwarf roared as the sounds of howling coming from the outside of the room cut his voice off…
Space and Lefty ran outside, looking for the dwarf and their friends… “My lord! Whoever was here must have dragged the gang outside!” Space gasped, as his instincts took over and he ran to the front door. Lefty followed suit, making sure that her hood was properly on this time, (So my powers can lead to trackers and what following me?) Lefty thought to herself as she ran to the front door. Once Lefty was outside, she angled her hearing to where the screams were coming from, (Found ya!) Lefty grinned as she turned her head towards the direction. Lefty nearly screamed as she found the source of the whining… “Shadows!” Lefty growled as she angled her ears down, and looked to find that there amongst the shadows, were all of her friends being held hostage by black shadows….
