Chapter
12
“Stop! Stop! STOP!” The cross stone
screamed at Lefty as she ran. Lefty blinked back tears as she continued to run,
allowing tree branches to scratch her face as she ran in the rain. “Lefty STOP!
Can’t we just talk? I mean, I’m getting tired… Please LEFTY!” A voice screamed behind Lefty. Lefty didn’t look
back, she knew it was Cat, but she didn’t care, she had to get away, she wasn’t going to sit around and let her friends
see the grief on her face.
“You know, you should really stop running
away from her… She’s not gonna give up, even if she does get tired…” The
cross stone whispered into Lefty’s head. Lefty bit her lip and kept running, “I don’t care… I got into this mess, and I’m
not backing down now! So I will run all week if I have to!” Lefty angrily
whispered back to the cross stone, not caring if it really heard her or not… The
cross stone glowed a bright blue in response, “Well, I guess I’ll have to fix that!” The stone glowed even
brighter, leaving a confused look on Lefty’s face as she looked down at it for
a quick moment.
Unknown
to Lefty at the moment, a glowing root moved in front of Lefty’s running path, making
Lefty to yelp in shock as she tripped over it and went flying into a mud puddle…
“Sorry.. But, this is for a good reason!”
The cross stone whispered to Lefty, as Cat ran even harder to catch up to Lefty
while she had the chance….
“You know, the more time passes… The more I
think about just how badly I dislike ever finding YOU!” Lefty quietly
cursed to the stone, as Cat reached her.
“Oh
my gosh! That looked painful when you flew a couple of feet into the mud!” Cat
exclaimed, as she extended a paw to help Lefty up. Fear showed in Lefty’s eyes
as she quickly turned away from Cat and growled, like she didn’t know who Cat
was. “Go away!” Lefty sobbed, barely able to get the words out…
Cat
was taken back by Lefty’s tone, but she knew that Lefty didn’t really mean it… Cat
just sighed and sat down next to Lefty in the mud as rain continued to pour
down on the two… “Come on Lefty… It’s just me… You know I ain’t gonna bite your
head off, you know…” Cat faced Lefty, sympathy filling her eyes as she silently
pleaded to her…
Lefty
cast a quick glace at Cat, before returning to stare at the mud… “I… I know…”
Lefty sighed through more choked sobs… Cat took this as a sign of progress and
scooted next to Lefty, “Good… Now I want you to please listen for like, half a
minute… Is that ok?” Cat asked while trying to look at Lefty through what her
hood didn’t hide… Lefty’s only reply was a small nod, as her head was still
looking at the mud… “Listen, I don’t care what happened back there… It’s not
important right now… What I do care about is seeing you so upset that you would
pull something like that! But… All I really want to know is… Why?” Cat questioned, as a small stream
of tears filled her eyes…
Lefty
grabbed Cat’s shoulder, making Cat flinch in surprise a little bit… “Don’t’
cry…. Please… For my sake…. I’m the
one who got us into this mess… So please don’t cry because of me…” Lefty
sobbed, as she turned her face towards Cat for the first time in a long time,
letting Cat see Lefty’s face rather clearly… Cat gazed in wonder as she saw not
anger, but sorrow and grief on Lefty’s face… Along with a bit of weariness…
“Cat,
you have no idea how much pain I’ve felt these past few days… I just…” Left bit
her lip as some tears ran down her cheek, “I really just didn’t want to be the
one who broke down in tears… Because… I know that everyone else feels the same
way, I know because I can sense it…. The cross stone has told me since the
beginning of our adventure, but I didn’t need it to know that… And… I didn’t
want to be the one that was a wimp… I wanted to make sure that everyone knew
everything was okay because I didn’t break down…” Lefty sobbed, as she hugged
Cat the way that a child does to its mother… Cat twitched a little in surprise but just
simply hugged the older teen and let her sob… “Cat, I know that I don’t exactly
know how my powers work just yet, but… I know that when I’m thinking about
something a lot, my powers just… go crazy… and I can’t do anything about that!”
Lefty whined in despair…
Now
it was time for Cat to be the comforter, “I know Lefty…” Cat cooed… Lefty
shifted a bit more in the mud puddle, “Cat… I knew that since the time I
touched the sword and my power flowed through it, I felt every feeling in the
room… Like I could see right through everyone like a book… But… I knew that if
my powers were controlled by my emotions, then…” Lefty stopped, as fresh tears
rolled down her face…
Cat
patted Lefty’s back as she sat up straight again, “But… What?” Cat asked Lefty
innocently… Lefty sobbed for a few moments before continuing… “I knew that if
that was true then, if I saw my friends getting hurt or something… My… Powers
would go out of control… And I was afraid that… I would never forgive myself
for not being able to control it… And not being able to explain to our parents
where everyone went if I ever made it back home…” Lefty sobbed the words out
very quickly between bursts of emotion…
A
spark of realization hit her… “Lefty… Those thoughts of disappearing are lies
that come from fear… You know that I would never ever think different of you… Neither would anyone else, we are all
just concerned for you… And..” Cat would have continued to coo Lefty, but Lefty
held up a paw to stop her… “O… Ok… If you really mean it… Just… Please don’t
act all weird like you guys have been… I just… Feel uncomfortable in front of
it all… I want things to be the way they were before all of this happened… I
didn’t want to be treated differently even though this is a serious situation
and I’m the prophet… *Sigh* I just want things to be somewhat normal, ok?” Lefty cracked a weak smile through her tears… “Besides,
we have this whole other dimension to explore and I don’t want to be stressing
out the whole time…”
Cat
nearly laughed, but simply remained quite with a smile on her face as Lefty
stood up… “So the real Lefty has come back, huh? You ready to head back now?”
Cat smiled warmly at Lefty… Lefty didn’t reply, but simply held a paw up to Cat
as fear filled the Prophet’s face once more… “Hush!” Lefty’s seriousness on her
face made Cat freeze in fear and confusion, but said nothing…
Suddenly,
Lefty’s eyes turned the same bright blue glow as she had seen at least for the
second time that day… “There is someone nearby…” Lefty growled suddenly underneath
her breath, making ice crawl up Cat’s back as her eyes went huge…
